Personal profile

Personal Statement

I joined the Law School in 2014 as a Chancellor’s Fellow having worked at the University of Dundee since 2010. I hold a PhD and master’s degree in law from the University of Leeds. I have taught across a wide range of subjects, with a particular focus on the English Law of Equity and Trusts, English Criminal Law and Counter-Terrorism Law.

My research examines counter-terrorist law and policy, particularly in relation to counter-terrorist policing and protective security. I also look at policing more generally. Core themes across my research are accountability, human rights and risk, especially the impact of ‘all-risks’ policies. My work combines black letter analysis with empirical research to determine how the law actually functions. I was a contributing co-editor for The Routledge Handbook of Law and Terrorism (Routledge 2015). I am currently working on a monograph, Protective Security Against Terrorism: All-risks Policing of Political Violence, to be published by Cambridge University Press. I am a member of the Independent Advisory Group on the Use of Biometric Data in Scotland.
