I am a Chancellor’s Fellow (Lecturer) at the University of Strathclyde, Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering. I finished my BSc and MSc at Istanbul Technical University and I completed PhD in University of Strathclyde. My main body of research relates to ship recycling and I carried out research into the design of ship recycling yards and the optimisation of procedures using simulation, developing a ship recycling yard design and optimisation framework.
In addition to my research in PhD in yard design and optimisation, I took part in several projects related to ship recycling including but not limited to Development of Sustainable ship recycling industry in Indonesia (British Council funded), Development of Framework for Sustainable Decommissioning, Sustainable and Safe Ship Recycling in Bangladesh (Scottish Funding Council), Identification and Valuation of Equipment and Materials for Reuse, Remanufacturing and Recycling on Marine Assets. In addition to the research, I am also actively developing training for ship recycling workers through the IMO SENSREC and BoatDIGEST projects.
My research interests include;
Design and optimisation of production in ship recycling yards,
Optimisation of shipyards through discrete event simulation,
Design for Recycling of marine assets,
Development of risk-based design for ship recycling yards,
Application of the circular economy approach to marine assets.
