Personal profile

Personal Statement

I am currently researching and writing about queer South Asian pasts. My creative and critical work inform one another. Adopting a queer-feminist lens that inherently resists disciplining frameworks, and by employing transformational creative-research methods, I seek to decolonize notions of subaltern sexuality. Through my creative work, I hope to reimagine queer brown women against a history of shame and invisibility.

Research Interests

Gender and sexuality have been running themes in my writing and research career. My novel Kaleidoscopic Reflections (nominated for the Crossword Book Award) tells the tale of five generations of inter-caste Tamil womxn, and my collection of edgy short stories So I Let It Be revolves around female sexuality. For the last three years, I’ve conducted research in transdisciplinary theories including queer studies and feminism, & interviewed hundreds of womxn across India, to write a book about contemporary feminist politics for Aleph Book Company - titled Smashing the Patriarchy
